Herleik Kristiansen signs one of his monumental linocuts
NorlandiArt opens a new exhibition with linocuts by the late Herleik Alvin Kristiansen (1947-2023) in Lovund´s Galleri Syn, on April 14.
Kristiansen was raised at Tomma in what is now Nesna Municipality. After his first day of school, he was sent home for good with the label “Not fit for education”.
At the age of 16, he was sent to Trastad in Kvæfjord, an institution for the mentally disabled in Northern Norway. There, his artistic talents were discovered, and arrangements were made for him to develop them further. 10 years later, he was a recognized artist, purchased by the National Gallery, the Norwegian Council for Arts, the Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum and many others of the country's most important art collections. He was accepted as a member of the professional art organizations: Nordnorske Bildende Kunstnere, Norske Grafikere and Norske Bildende Kunstnere.
Herleik Kristiansen died in Harstad on February 16, 2023 and is buried at his home in Tomma. This exhibition of Herleik's graphic art (lino cuts) is the first in Helgeland after his death. It is a sales exhibition where the pictures are only sold via our online gallery.
