YNGVE HENRIKSEN

Svolvær

To get Yngve Henriksen to budge from Svolvær, one needs a very good reason. He once travelled to Kabelvåg, located in the same municipality, to attend the art school there. This might well have been a disastrous decision. Because the school’s staff discovered in Yngve a budding talent that needed to be developed by educational institutions very far away.

Nevertheless, Lofoten again became his home base soon after he completed his education.  Svolvær. Identity. Home. Anchorage point.

And these values can be found in his pictures. Not that one can recognize physical places or objects. Yngve Henriksen is enamoured with what he calls “a northern energy that is of both a physical and a mental nature”. This aspect emerges and is identified by many viewers, including those who have never been in the Lofoten islands.

Yngve has a studio and residence in the very centre of East-Lofoten’s capital city.  Lofoten forever. Light and dark. Cold and hot. And look! These are pictures for one and all.

On the side of Bodø Radisson Blue Hotel that faces Storgata is Yngve Henriksen’s untitled painting. Besides the painting itself, there are dozens of titles to be found in the painting’s nearby surroundings.

2018 has been a very busy year for Yngve Henriksen. We are therefore very happy to show a brand new painting at NorlandiART-18, and for sale in our web gallery.
